India bowling coach Morne Morkel has rejoined the team after attending a personal emergency back home and participated in the team’s training session held on Wednesday. Morkel had to leave the Indian camp a few days before the Champions Trophy due to the unfortunate demise of his father.

India batter Shubman Gill was the only player who did not turn up for practice on Wednesday. During the session, Morkel was seen having a long chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir as the players warmed up for their upcoming clash against New Zealand at the ICC Academy.

India enjoyed a couple of days off after outplaying Pakistan in their second group game. They have already reached the semifinals from Group A alongside New Zealand. The Men in Blue are set to take on the Black Caps in their last match of the group stage on March 2.

India, who last won the Champions Trophy in 2013, are favourites to lift the title due to their exceptional form in the format and heavy spin squad combination.

The Men in Blue have so far had a fantastic Champions Trophy campaign where they have beaten both Bangladesh and Pakistan comfortably, qualifying for the semi-finals in comprehensive fashion.

Former India cricketer Lalchand Rajput even believes that the current side is ruthless and will go on to win the tournament in convincing fashion.

“This Indian team looks ruthless. They try to dominate and win every game. They don’t want to give the opponents a chance to come back into the game. That is the attitude. And the way they are playing, I think they should win the Champions Trophy convincingly,” Rajput told PTI.
