De Villiers made his special appearance more significant after playing a much needed knock for his team and sailed their ship from choppy waters. South Africa posted just 214 on Day 1 as they were bowled out by the pumped Indian bowlers. De Villiers came out all guns blazing and scored a scintillating 85 before his innings was cut short by Ravindra Jadeja. He was also the highest-scorer from his side and will look to make a comeback in the Test as India were comfortably placed at 80 for no loss at stumps on Day 1.
