There is very strong connection between both India and South Africa since a very long time. As the series is named on Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, so the talk will always include both of their struggles for freedom. The two great souls of both the nation has taught lessons of peace and putting in front the values of freedom.

When South Africa made his comeback from the isolation period in 1991, their first tour was to India for three One-Day International (ODI), which they lost by 2-1. Though, this time they created the history by defeating India first ever time in an ODI series.

South Africa current Test captain, Hashim Amla also made his debut in Kolkata.  It’s been almost a decade time since they lost a Test series away from home.
