The Indian Colts had a field day on Day 2 of the 1st Youth test against their Sri Lankan counterparts at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo today. On the back of centuries by opener Atharwa Taide and middle order batsman Ayush Badoni, India U19 added 381 runs for the loss of 4 wickets during the course of the day. India had lost the wicket of skipper and opener Anuj Rawat at close of play yesterday. Atharwa Taide continued to play on responsibly and he went on to score 113 before being caught and bowled by SMKS Senarathne.
Pawan Shah, who came in at number 4, was involved in a useful 86 run partnership for the 3rd wicket with Taide. But the day eventually belonged to Nehal Wadhera and Ayush Badoni who were involved in a brisk and undefeated partnership of 183 runs which came off just 26.1 overs, with Wadhera batting at 81* and Badoni at 107* at close of play.
The Sri Lankan bowlers had a long day in the field with every bowler going for over 4 runs an over, with the exception of ST Mendis. EKV Perera took 2 wickets during the day which were those of Devdutt Paddikal and Pawan Shah.
Going into day 3, India U19 now leads Sri Lanka U19 by 229 runs with 5 wickets remaining and they would think that they are in the driver’s seat with two days to go.
