Substitite fielder Marnus Labuschagne continued the tradition of substitute fielders stealing the limelight when he pulled off a diving catch to dismiss Varun Aaron of the bowling of Nathan Lyon. India were bowled out for 408 after their they lost the remaining six wickets for just 97 runs.

There were other Australians who have made a name for themselves while fielding as a substitute. Chris Sabburg took a stunning catch to dismiss Kevin Pietersen last summer. Fellow Queensland compatriots Ryan Broad and Peter Cantrell have also pulled out amazing catches when they were brought on to field at Brisbane. It is said that Cantrell was out clubbing the previous night before he got a call that he was included in the Australia squad for the Ashes series in 1990. This however did not stop him from from two catches, including a blinder to dismiss Alec Stewart.

But sometimes, Australia are on the receiving end of an inspired substitute. Gary Platt had run-out Ricky Ponting in the 2005 Trent Bridge Test. Labuschagne, who was born in South Africa will try to make a name for himself when he plays for Queensland this season.
