Bangladesh suffered a loss of another significant player in form of their opening batsman Imrul Kayes, who has been ruled out of the one-off Test against India at Hyderabad due to thigh injury. Kayes suffered the injury while fielding in the two-day tour match against India A at the Gymkhana ground. Kayes did not bat in the second innings of the match that ended in a draw. It was the only warm-up fixture before the Test in Hyderabad, the first to be played by Bangladesh on Indian soil since the tourists gained full Test status 17 years ago. As per the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media manager Rabeed Imam, it is a recurrence of the same injury that ruled Kayes out of the second Test at Christchurch.
This opens the door for Soumya Sarkar to open along with Tamim Iqbal. Sarkar had a decent outing as an opening batsmen scoring 86 and 36 in Kayes absence against New Zealand. Bangladesh surprisingly have called in middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain, who was present for the ODIs and T20Is against New Zealand and was overlooked for Tests. Mosaddek is likely to make his debut in the historic match. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Bangladesh, One-off Test at Hyderabad
Bangladesh, who were rueing the absence of Mustafizur Rahman in the bowling unit, will now miss the services of Kayes in the batting department. Kayes and Tamim are Bangladesh’s most successful opening pair.
The duo have amassed 2,205 runs together at the top, which includes four century stands.
