ALL OVER! England win by 118 runs. James Anderson picks up WICKET no. 564. What a handsome win for the home team. Alastair Cook walks out to a standing ovation. The Indians are out there shaking hands with the great man.

  • 9:46 PM IST

OUT! Ishant Sharma is caught behind. Jadeja stranded at the other end. England just two away from win and there are 16 overs left. Mohammed Shami is not your man to block, but he will have to if India are to manage a miraculous escape here.

  • 9:11 PM IST

OUT! That surely is it. Pant departs. Holes out to Moeen Ali at long off. Goes for 114 but what an innings it has been. With Rahul, he raised hopes of an improbable India win. But it was always going to be a tough task. Anyway, well played Pant. England now just THREE wickets away from victory.

  • 9:07 PM IST

OUT! At last, a wicket arrives for England. KL Rahul is the man to go, one short of 150. It required a monster ball to get rid of him. Rashid pitched it into the rought and ball spun sharply to hit the off stump. Was this the opening England needed? How will Pant react. India’s next man in is Ravindra Jadeja. Another 86 from him will surely get India home. Could it be done?

  • 8:42 PM IST

The final session resumes. India, needing 166, have started off with another six from Pant. This is soon going to turn into T20 batting. Stay close folks. This Test match is heading towards an exciting finish.

  • 8:40 PM IST

    What a compliment to get!

  • 8:12 PM IST

Tea has been taken on the final day with India on 298/5, 166 runs away from the target. A wicketless session for India. Tremendous stuff.

  • 8:11 PM IST

Maiden Test ton for RIshabh Pant. Gets there with a six. What an innings. India are motoring along here.

  • 7:46 PM IST

Rahul is approaching 150, whereas Pant has entered the 80s. Will it be a maiden Test century for the 20-year-old?

  • 7:45 PM IST

Well well well. What do we have here. We may still be away from the conclusion but is the possibility of an Indian win lurking here? The partnership between Rahul and Pant has surpassed 150 and India need another 190 to wn. They are scoring at over 4 in this session and England are just beginning to get a little frustrated here. Anyway, here are James Anderson and Stuart Broad back to make something happen.

  • 7:05 PM IST

Maiden Test fifty for Rishabh Pant. Oh how dearly would India have loved this piece of batting to have come earlier in the series. Pant has batted the way he knows. Attacked the loose deliveries, played out the tough ones. More importantly, Pant has been the perfect ally to Rahul. It’s given India some hope. But there’s still a lot of time left in the game. 236/5 at the moment.

  • 6:45 PM IST

Runs are coming thick and fast for the Indians. In half an hour, Pant and Rahul have added another 50 runs taking their partnership to over 100. Forecast says some storm is on the horizon. Things may just be beginning to fall in place for India.

  • 6:37 PM IST

Rishabh Pant gets into action. Punches Adil Rashid off the backfoot for a four to bring up India’s 200. The destination is still far but Pant and Rahul are putting up a brave fight.

  • 6:17 PM IST

Nice little partnership brewing here between Pant and Rahul, accounting for 50 runs. India continue to battle.

  • 6:12 PM IST

    Second session underway

  • 5:35 PM IST

  • 5:19 PM IST

100 For KL Rahul. He moved form87to 101 in that over. Six followed by two boundaries. His first since Dec 2016, third Indian to a 100 this series and he gets his average up. India still reeling at 152/5, chasing 464

  • 4:58 PM IST

OUT! Two in two for England. Ben Stokes sends back Hanuma Vihari for a DUCK. Short ball and a clueless Vihari edges it to the keeper. India FIVE down for 121, and now it’s only a matter of time before the wheels come off. Or have they already?

  • 4:51 PM IST

WICKET! There it is. It’s taken some time for England but they have struck through Moeen Ali. Lazy shot from Rahane, sweeps but almost a fraction too late. The ball takes the top edge and it skies before the catch is taken by Keaton Jennings at midwicket. The promising century stand comes to an end. Will this signal the begining of the slide for India?

  • 4:40 PM IST

100 run partnership comes up between KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane. Rahul brings it up with a crisp cover drives that beats Sam Curran to the boundary and follows it with a cruching punch off the backfoot for another four. Good solid start from India. But can they carry on?

  • 4:38 PM IST

This innings is certain to give Rahul the rope for the West Indies series. Indirectly, it also means that he will travel to Australia.

  • 4:23 PM IST

It’s been a safe 50 minutes or so for India. They haven’t lost a wicket, and KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane have batted solidly so far. There isn’t much for the bowlers at the moment but James Anderson and Sam Curran have produced a few unplayable deliveries. But that’s expected in the morning. England have introduced Moeen Ali with the hope of getting a breakthrough. The next half an hour will be extremely interesting.

  • 4:01 PM IST

In case you’re wondering. India were chasing 438 to win and they ended up scoring 429/8. India’s top three had combined for 353 runs, with Sunil Gavaskar scoring 221, Chetan Chauhan hitting 81 and Dilip Vengsarkar contributing with 52.

Meanwhile, we lost our top three for 2 runs on the board yesterday. Best team to tour overseas, WHO?

  • 3:51 PM IST

The floodlights are on at The Oval, and the stadium is surrounded by some dark clouds. This may be far-fetched but do not rule out the possibility of something other than batting to come to India’s recue. You know what me mean 😉

  • 3:34 PM IST

Fifty for Rahul. His first of the series, but it’s come a little too late for India. Anderson drfits it onto Rahul’s legs and he flicks it for four. First boundary of the day for India. It’s the 14th of his career and the first by an Indian opener in the series. Can India save the Test?

  • 3:30 PM IST

And we’re underway. James Anderson has the ball. The first hour as usual will be crucial. Can Rahul and Rahane resist?
