Group A members India Women and Ireland Women take on each other in Match No. 11 of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2017 at Colombo on Friday. India are at the top of the table at the moment, after registering wins in their first two games. They will thus be confident getting into this match against Ireland, who have had a mixed start to the campaign. They have won and lost one game each in the tournament. Playing India, however, is going to be their biggest challenge so far. The match is scheduled to be played at P Sara Oval, Colombo. India have won both their matches in a convincing manner so far. Their first encounter was against the hosts Sri Lanka women, where they emerged victorious by 114 runs. Batting first, India scored 259 for 8, thanks to fifties by Deepti Sharma (54), Devika Vaidya (89) and skipper Mithali Raj’s 62-ball 70 not out. In reply, the troika of Deepti, Ekta Bisht and Rajeshwari Gayakwad restricted Sri Lanka to 145 for 8, thus ensuring India win. The next match against Thailand was a cakewalk for India, as a collective bowling effort bundled them out for 55, which India chased down with ease.
Ireland, on the other hand, beat Zimbabwe women comprehensively by 119 runs before going down to hosts Sri Lanka by a massive margin of 146 runs. The clash against India, thus, is going to be a herculean task for them.
