Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja helped their team tighten the noose around the Kiwis as the pitch offered turn and bounce. New Zealand are on 97 for two after 21 overs.

The Kiwis were off to a sparkling start with some aggressive shots from Jesse Ryder and Martin Guptill. India fought back with two quick wickets; Varun Aaron dismissed Ryder while Mohammed Shami removed Guptill. After the quick wickets, Dhoni brought on his spinners and immediately in the first over of Ravindra Jadeja, Kane Willaimson struggled with the deliveries turning away from him.

This prompted Dhoni get in Ashwin as well. The spin twins kept the batsmen on their toes.

Both Taylor and Williamson survived close leg-before calls.
