Ramakrishnan Sridhar is set to return as India‘s fielding coach for three-Test series against New Zealand starting on September 22 at Kanpur. Sridhar replaces Abhay Sharma who was the fielding coach for West Indies tour of Four-Test series which India won by 2-0. Abhay was working with India A team in Australia. Sridhar was roped in after feedback from management team of India and India A. Sridhar will be rejoining Indian squad after he was replaced by Abhay Sharma after his contract expired alongside team director Ravi Shashtri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and batting coach Sanjay Bangar after ICC T20 World Cup 2016. According to The Hindu, BCCI official revealed that Indian players are more comfortable with Sridhar and one of the main reason he has recalled for the fielding coach position after exit earlier this year. It is also speculated that the decision was taken by BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke with consent of skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Anil Kumble after the selection of the squad for New Zealand series on September 12.
The 46-year-old was roped in as fielding coach in 2014 before India’s tour of England. India will be going into the series without a bowling coach by their side as Anil Kumble is working with India’s bowling line-up and also helping in batting practice by bowling them in the nets. Earlier Indian squad was selected, the squad included same players as India’s tour of West Indies. However, the 15-man squad did not feature fast bowler Shardul Thakur and all-rounder Stuart Binny in the squad.
