India’s batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who came to bat for his first Test in this tour against New Zealand, was injured after being hit by Trent Boult bouncer in the third over of India’s second innings on Sunday. Soon he was rushed to the hospital for x-ray. Dhawan was soon dismissed for 17 leg before wicket to Boult. This could mean, Dhawan might miss out the tour for three weeks. The x-ray reports have suggested a crack, but there is no official confirmation from the team management. This means, chances of Gautam Gambhir to be back in the squad are high on cards. Gambhir was present in the crease replacing Pujara when he was ill during the first innings. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs New Zealand, 2nd Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Sources close to the development said, “He was at the hospital for five minutes roughly. There is bit of a crack in the thumb. He has been advised a week’s rest at least.” The reports are yet to be received. Before the hit on his thumb, Dhawan also picked up a knock on his shoulder, hit by another Boult delivery. Leading 1-0 in the three match series, India are eyeing a series-sealing victory in Kolkata Test, which will take them to No. 1 in Test rankings replacing Pakistan.

India have already restricted New Zealand to 128 for 8 and at the moment Matt Henry, Boult are playing. India are just two wickets away from the victory. On Sunday, Rohit Sharma and skipper Virat Kohli’s controlled innings kept India in command of the day. ALSO READ: Here’s why Shikhar Dhawan may get a nod ahead of Gautam Gambhir for Kolkata Test
