India and Pakistan opened the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 campaign as they clashed at the Adelaide Oval, with India winning the contest by 76 runs. According to Times of India, the India versus Pakistan clash generated a mind boggling 118.3 million views on Twitter over the course of the clash. When Virat Kohli was dismissed by Pakistan bowler Sohail Khan for 107, there were 6,916 tweets per minute being registered. There were 7,159 tweets per minute when the Indian batsman completed his century, and when India were winning the match, 9,987 tweets per minute were being countered. The hashtag #CWC15 generated more than 1.4 billion live impressions throughout the tournament that was held in Australia and New Zealand.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) too generated a massive buzz online. There were more than 9 million tweets recorded in the tournament, and more than 375.4 million views on the IPL tweets during the live cricket matches.
The final of the IPL 2015 tournament was played between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), and even Facebook observed tremendous interactions. There were around 2.4 million interactions from 1.2 million people spread around the world. In India alone, 75 per cent of this interaction was seen.
