Pawan Negi, 23-year-old all-rounder from Delhi will make his Twenty20 international (T20I) debut for India  against UAE in the ninth match of Asia Cup 2016. BCCI recently tweeted and confirmed the same. In the picture which was attached along with the tweet, Ravi Shastri can be seen presenting India cap to the budding cricketer. Negi is flanked by other members of the Indian team. This will be Negi’s first international match. He is still to make his debut in Test and One Day Internationals (ODI) cricket. Negi is a left-arm spin bowler, who is a handy batsman lower down the order. Negi has featured in three First-Class matches in which he averages 19.33 with the bat with a highest score of 30 not out. He has also taken four wickets at an average of 24. The left-hander has also played 19 List A games. He has scored 187 runs at 37 and has also pocketed 25 wickets at an economy of4.55. His bowling average in List A cricket is 21.48. Talking of his T20 record, he has 479 runs from 56 games at 19.16 and a strike rate of 102.18. His top score is an unbeaten 41. Negi was named in the 15-man Indian squad for the ICC World T20 2016 and Asia Cup 2016, had earlier said that he was expecting the call after being selected for the Sri Lanka series, which recently concluded.

 

”I was hopeful of being selected for the World T20 after being named in the squad for Sri Lanka series. If I get a chance to play in the tournament, my motive will be to make contribution with both bat and ball,” Negi had said.
