In a day dominated by India batsmen mainly Ajinkya Rahane being the pick of the list, West Indies right-arm off spin bowler managed to pick his maiden five-wicket haul. The 6ft 4 inch all-rounder, who started his career as a right-handed batsman, was bowling on a tight line and length which yielded him five wickets on Day 3 of the second test match against India at Sabina Park. Roston Chase, who was seen bowling bit too wide in the first test, was not effective against a strong Indian batting line up. But having learnt from his past mistakes, the lanky off spinner was quick to make a comeback in the second test match with his maiden fifer. Chase made complete use of the bounce and turn that he got from the pitch on the rain tormented day of the test match. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs West Indies 2016, 2nd Test, Day 3 at Kingston
Whilst all this, Chase was the pick of the West Indian bowlers, who varied his line and length along with pace variations. According to Cricbuzz.com, Chase was quoted saying, “It is a great feeling to get five wickets in any match, but at Test level it is a great feeling for me. I have just started my Test career and it is a great confidence boost for me that I can do it at this level, so this is a great feeling for me.”
India started off on a good note on the day 3, with Rahane scoring 108 and securing 7th ton of his career which was also supported by some dropped chances by the West Indians. He got a good support from Wriddhiman Saha who scored a gritty 47 off 116 deliveries which resulted in 98-run stand between the two for the 6th wicket. This partnership was eventually broken by Jason Holder, who got rid of Saha. This was when Rahane had a lone battle to fight as Amit Mishra and Mohammed Shami departed in quick successions. West Indies come out on Day 4 to suffice the lead of 304 runs in the second innings, which certainly puts India in a dominating position on Day 4. The weather pattern is not too promising for the match as it is expected that tropical storm is predicted to hit the Jamaican shores. The West Indies batsman will have to make sure that they do not go for any wrong shots when they come out to bat, as the match seems like away from their grasp. Having lost the series opener at Antigua, the West Indian team cannot afford to lose the second test match, as this loss will put India into a driving position in the four-Test series.
