After leading his team to a stunning 11-run victory over India in the 4th One-Day International (ODI), West Indies captain Jason Holder said he was confident about his team chances of winning against the Indian team. “We knew we could beat India. Just needed some application,” said Holder, who registered his career-best figures in ODI cricket by taking 5 wickets for just 27 runs. Holder also mentioned the importance of picking up early wickets and to get India’s top three back in the pavilion as soon as possible.
“Throughout the series we’ve spoken about taking new-ball wickets. India’s top order has been doing well. It’s all about getting Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat (Kohli) as soon as possible,” said Holder. For the second time in the series, he got the better of the Indian captain Virat Kohli. The skipper was also all praise for Kesrick Williams, who bowled an important penultimate over, in which he conceded just 2 runs and also picked up the crucial wicket of MS Dhoni. “I want to make a special mention of Kesrick Williams – showed a lot of maturity in his second game, showed a lot of heart as well.” ALSO READ: IND vs WI, 4th ODI: MS Dhoni’s tortoisesque knock and other highlights
Even though West Indies were brilliant with the ball, they once again fared poorly with the bat. Holder also admitted this fact and said batting remains an area of concern for his team. With the uneven nature of the surface, he said that even 250 would have been a par score on the Antigua pitch.
Holder said that he always had self-belief in himself and it was only a matter of executing the plans. “I always believe in myself. I thought I was doing fairly well in the series so far. Only criticism was at the back end. Roddy Estwick told me not to try too many things and just stick to my plans, and that’s what I did,” he said.
Holder’s performance has kept West Indies alive in the series and they now have the chance to draw the series when they meet India on July 6 for the fifth and final ODI at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
