India Women won the the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Twenty20 final by 18 runs beating Pakistan Women with a well balanced bowling effort at Guangzhou.
Archana Das and Nagarajan Niranjana picked up two wickets each and Shubhalakshmi Sharma, Ekta Bisht, Reema Malhotra and Anuja Patil picked up one wicket each.
Poonam Raut was declared Player of the Match for her contribution with the bat.
Mithali raj, who wasn’t part of the playing XI, said, “So happy for the girls even though I’m disappointed not to have played because of my ankle. Winning this Asia Cup is a great achievement and what’s been special is how our team has become like a family over the years, everyone contributes and plays for each other.”
Bismah Mahroof was the top scorer for Pakistan, scoring only 18 runs.
Earlier, Pakistan Women produced a well disciplined bowling performance, dismissing India Women for 81 in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Twenty20 final.
Poonam Raut was the top scorer for India with 25 runs. Sana Mir’s four-wicket haul proved to be costly for the Indian side.
India went on losing wickets at regular interval.
Harmanpreet Kaur, stand-in captain in place of Mithali Raj, won the toss and elected to bat first. Senior players Mithali and Jhulan Goswami were ruled out of the final match due to ankle injury.
Brief Score: India Women 81 all-out in 20 overs (Poonam Raut 25, Harmanpreet Kaur 18; Sana Mir 4 for 13) bt Pakistan Women 63 all-out in 19.1 overs (Bismah Mahroof 18, Nain Abidi 13; Archana Das 2 for 12, Nagarajan Niranjana 2 for 15) by 18 runs.
