A terrific effort from the India Women bowlers helped them to restrict the visitors Sri Lanka Women at 89 for 9 in the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) at Ranchi. Sri Lanka Women have played two T20Is and have lost both of them to the hosts as the latter dominated both with bat and with ball and. India Women have already bagged the three-match T20I series winning two consecutive matches and the tourists were looking forward for a resurgence in the last match but looking at the current score, pulling off a win looks a tough job. Sri Lanka Women won the toss and elected to field first. The opening combination was changed by skipper Shashikala Siriwardene as she sent Oshadi Ranasinghe along with Chamari Athapaththu to open the batting. But the plan failed as Indian bowlers came into the action early. Sri Lanka started losing wickets in quick succession. They lost their first wicket in the first over as Ranasinghe departed for a duck in the very first over while the next in, skipper Siriwardene, departed in the following over without scoring a single run. It was Anuja Patil who gave India their first breakthrough with an lbw. Sri Lanka’s batting innings was never stabilised as the fall of wickets did not stop. Very few players managed to reach the double digit. Nipuna Hansika and Athapaththu tried to build up a partnership after the initial two wickets but Hansika was dismissed for 13 as ‘keeper Sushma Verma got her for a clever stumping and it ended adding 33 runs. Sri Lanka lost their 7 wickets within 46 runs in 14.4 overs. A good effort with the bat came from Eshani Lokusuriyage. Coming out at No. 7, she scored an important 25 off 22 with the help of three boundaries which pushed the score a bit. Only four batsmen from the Lankan side managed to score in double digits.
The Indian bowlers did a magnificent job. Ekta Bosht remained the highest wicket-taker as she took three wickets for 17 runs in her 4 overs. Another crucial spell came from Anuja Patil who initiated the slide in the visitors’ batting. Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad bagged one wicket each. An effort which should be appreciated is that by Indian wicketkeeper Sushma Verma. Verma remained active and displayed some intelligent acts of stumping never missing a single chance which helped more.
Brief scores:
Sri Lanka 89 for 9 in overs 20 ( Eshani Lokusuriyage 25; Ekta Bisht 3 for 17, Anuja Patil 2 for 19) vs India
