Prakash Jayaramaiah, the vice captain of the Indian blind cricket team, on Monday said that the team needs recognition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as the ‘Inner Wheen Drusti Cup’ is currentluy being held at the Koppal ground in Mysore. The tri-series organized by Inner Wheel Club Mysuru, witnessed Pamba thrash Ponna by seven wickets. “The blind cricket team need more encouragement, and more importantly, recognition from BCCI and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Apart from this, those who represent India and keep performing consistently should be given government jobs. This will encourage more visually challenged people to perform better,” said Jayaramaiah to Times of India.
Jayaramaiah said said that they need to utilise their own money in order to participate in a tournament, or to represent a state or the country. Meanwhile, he thanked Inner Wheel Club for organising the blind cricket tournament in 2016. In the tournament, the players were divided into three teams, which were3 mostly named after famous poets like Ranna, Ponna and Pampa. The final being a 10-over per side, Ponna were able to score 108 runs for the loss of four wickets, while Anup Shetty played a commendable innings of 72, inlcusing nine boundaries and a couple of sixes, while for Pampa, Pradeep was able to claim three wickets.
Pampa were able to chase the target down in 8.4 overs, while they managed to lose just a couple of wickets. HM Pratap was the top scorer with 28 runs, while Pradeep and Yogesh managed to score 22 and 20 runs, respectively. Anup’s was awarded the man of the series award for his all-round performance, while MS Suresh of Ponna and Hemanth of Ranna were adjudged the best bowler and batsman of the tournament, respectively.
