Former Australian quick Geoff Lawson feels the Indians are a vulnerable lot outside their country and added the young Australian bowlers don’t need to fear the ageing visitors.
“They’ve been talking themselves up, but they play badly away from home, have just been beaten 4-0 in England and were poor,” he said.
Lawson added that the visitors have nothing “special” in their bowling ranks either to fluster the Aussies.
“They have great batsmen, but they are not getting any younger and their bowling attack is not that special, especially if Ishant Sharma is injured,” the bowler was quoted as saying by ‘AAP’ ahead of the four-match Test series.
The former Australian cricketer, who had coached Pakistan, said despite the hosts’ loss to New Zealand in the second match of the recently-concluded Test series he finds no reason to worry for skipper Michael Clarke.
“Although we lost to New Zealand, I was impressed with the way James Pattinson bowled in both Tests. He was terrific,” Lawson said.
“Nathan Lyon has done well too and Peter Siddle has also been impressive,” he added.
The first Test starts on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with world No 2 India looking to record their first-ever series victory Down Under.(PTI)
