West Indies Women have set India Women a target of 140 to win the third and final T20I at Vijayawada. Hayley Matthews got West Indies Women off to an excellent start. She clobbered as many as four boundaries in the opening two overs itself, with Jhulan Goswami and Anuja Patil bearing her brunt. She and skipper Stefanie Taylor brought up the team s fifty inside the first six overs and set the platform to get a huge score. However, Hayley s innings was cut short as debutant Poonam Yadav struck. Hayley was caught behind for 47 off just 22 deliveries, falling three short of what would have been a deserved fifty. Her wicket saw the scoring rate drop to a certain extent. Brintey Cooper and Stefanie went at a considerably slow pace, but West Indies Women were going at a good run rate. West Indies Women were finding it difficult to score freely after the dismissal of Hayley and the run rate too had dropped to well under 8 after that. They needed their skipper Stefanie to bat right till the end, if her side was to post a huge score on the board. However, West Indies Women lost the wicket of Britney for 11 off 18, trapped leg before off Ekta Bisht. That brought wicketkeeper Kucia Knight to the crease. It took her very less time to get going, striking three boundaries in her first 11 balls. Stefanie at the other end was going at less than run-a-ball. Kycia went for one short too many and was eventually dismissed by Poonam for 16, who picked up her second wicket of the day.

Kycia had however ensured that she got some momentum back into the innings, striking three boundaries in her 12-ball innings. Her wicket got Deandra Dottin to the crease. Deandra could do very little to help her team’s cause as she was dismissed by Jhulan for run-a-ball 6. India Women were right on top at the end of the 18th over, with just 125 on the board. With the start they made, the would be disappointed with the score they had at this stage. Taylor attacked a bit in the end to get her team a touch under 140. West Indies Women will be disappointed as they were looking set to get at least 160 on the board.

Earlier, West Indies Women won the toss and decided to bat first. West Indies Women have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series, after winning the first two matches of the series comfortably. India Women however completed a 3-0 clean sweep over West Indies Women in the One-Day International (ODI) series. They will hope that they do not suffer a similar fate in the T20I series.
