Pakistan getting eliminated from the 2025 edition of Champions Trophy is reported to have caused a rift between the captain and the coach. According to sources, Mohammed Rizwan was ‘frustrated’ because of a lack of consultation on important decisions.
One of the main topic of conflict was that though Rizwan was in support of Khushdil Shah, Aaqib Javed selected Faheem Ashraf by himself. Rizwan was also not complying with the selection committee.
The report claimed that even though the team management and selectors faced a lot of consequences for the selected squad, Javed has no plan on resigning from his position. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is surely going to take this big step and remove him from the spot.
Despite a disappointing display in the Champions Trophy, Javed defended Pakistan’s squad and said, “There are no excuses in life. We always support our team, and before every match, we remain hopeful. The players themselves are disappointed with their performance. Our message to the nation is that we always put in our best efforts.”
“If you don’t put up a good total, the bowlers have to go on the attack. You can never be satisfied after a loss,” he added.
“In some matches, the presence of big players is essential. The absence of Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman made a difference. Sufiyan Muqeem and Irfan Niazi lacked exposure in ODIs,” he explained.
Pakistan team is already out from the race to semifinals as they lost their first two clashes against New Zealand and India. However, the team is set to play against Bangladesh, who have also been eliminated from the race to semifinals. The match is going to be a dead rubber as the outcome of the clash will have no effect in the rest of the fixture of the tournament.
