Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president N Srinvasan and accused in the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting scam will be produced in Mumbai court on Saturday.
Meiyappan, who was arrested late on Friday evening, was interrogated for almost three hours along with Vindoo Dara Singh.
After the interrogation, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said, “After the interrogation, we have found that there is enough evidence in the case that we are investigating. Hence, we are placing him (Meiyappan) under arrest”
Meiyappan was taken for a mandatory medical check-up at 3 am to GT Hospital after which he was brought back to the Crime Branch for interrogation. According to CNN IBN, police have audio recordings of the interrogation.
If Meiyappan is found guilty, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are under the risk of being thrown out of the IPL. Amidst lot of speculations, N Srinivasan refused to step down as the BCCI president. BCCI chief N Srinivasan has told CNN-IBN, “I am not resigning now; I have not tendered resignation”.
