DD 165/1 | Overs 17 | Sehwag 95*, Warner 7*

David Warner flicks Jasprit Bumrah’s yorker on leg-stump to the fine-leg fence, before Virender Sehwag heaves the youngster for four more to the deep mid-wicket fence. The Mumbai Indians slip to their second straight thumping loss, this time by nine wickets. In the end, it was a much-needed win for Delhi and an emphatic one at that. We’ll have to wait and see if it brings about a turnaround in their fortunes in this tournament.

Delhi Daredevils win by 9 wickets with 18 balls to spare.

DD 152/1 | Overs 16 | Sehwag 90*, Warner 1* OUT! Jayawardene 59(43)

Lasith Malinga gets a scorching yorker through towards the bottom of Virender Sehwag’s middle stump, and on any other day, that would have broken the stump into two. But not today. Sehwag makes toom and cuts it to third man for a boundary. Even he cannot believe it! However, Malinga gets some compensation after a similar delivery raps Mahela Jayawardene on his shoes in front of middle and the latter walks off without a look at the umpire, perhaps knowing his job is done. The second Strategic Timeout is taken after the wicket, purely for academic reasons.

Delhi need 10 runs from 24 balls.

DD 144/0 | Overs 15 | Jayawardene 58*, Sehwag 84*

Virender Sehwag spanks Kieron Pollard for four to extra cover, before getting a lucky boundary off an edge past the ‘keeper. Nothing has gone right for the Mumbai Indians in this second innings. Delhi need 18 runs from 30 balls.

DD 133/0 | Overs 14 | Jayawardene 57*, Sehwag 75*

Mahela Jayawardene swivels and pulls Munaf Patel to deep square-leg for four runs. Three more runs come from the over. Delhi need 29 runs from 36 balls.

DD 126/0 | Overs 13 | Jayawardene 52*, Sehwag 72*

Virender Sehwag makes room and cuts Harbhajan Singh for four to the deep point fence, before playing a lowish drive to the same boundary. Harbhajan fields a submissive look on his face.

DD 114/0 | Overs 12 | Jayawardene 50*, Sehwag 62*

Mahela Jayawardene also brings up his half-century with a flick off the pads down mid-wicket for a single. Munaf Patel recovers well after being thrashed in his first two overs.

DD 109/0 | Overs 11 | Jayawardene 48*, Sehwag 59*

Mahela Jayawardene cracks a beautiful cover-drive off his Sri Lankan compatriot Lasith Malinga in the first ball of the over. Malinga recovers well to give just three more runs.

DD 102/0 | Overs 10 | Jayawardene 42*, Sehwag 58*

Dwayne Smith comes back into the attack and gets spanked for 14 runs. First, he offers Mahela Jayawardene width and the Delhi skipper has no qualms finding the sweeper cover fence. Jayawardene then executes a magnificent sweep for six over fine leg. Delhi need a run-a-ball now.

DD 88/0 | Overs 9 | Jayawardene 34*, Sehwag 52*

Harbhajan Singh comes around the wicket to Mahela Jayawardene, but it makes no difference as the Sri Lankan gently sweeps it for four.

DD 80/0 | Overs 8 | Jayawardene 28*, Sehwag 50*

Virender Sehwag spanks Dwayne Smith for six between deep mid-wicket and long on and soon brings up his half-century in just 31 balls.

DD 70/0 | Overs 7 | Jayawardene 26*, Sehwag 43*

Mahela Jayawardene gets the reverse sweep in off Harbhajan Singh and gets four for it. Ten runs come off the off-spinner’s first over and Delhi are cruising along to an easy win as we see it.

DD 60/0 | Overs 6 | Jayawardene 20*, Sehwag 39*

Lasith Malinga bowls just short of good length and onto Virender Sehwag’s pads, and there’s no way that’s going for anything less than four runs! Sehwag then deftly places Malinga wide of point for four more. That’s the end of the Powerplay overs and Delhi couldn’t have asked for a better start. Mumbai immediately call for a Strategic Timeout.

DD 51/0 | Overs 5 | Jayawardene 20*, Sehwag 30*

Virender Sehwag flicks Munaf Patel off his pads for a boundary, before getting the leg-glance through for four more. Mahela Jayawardene then helps Munaf’s delivery drifting down leg for four to fine leg, before spanking him to the long-off fence for another boundary. Another seventeen-run over for the Daredevils. This is brilliant batting — something the Daredevils have really missed in this tournament so far.

DD 34/0 | Overs 4 | Jayawardene 12*, Sehwag 21*

Virender Sehwag slaps Jasprit Bumrah to the extra cover fence, before clearing long-on for a maximum. Powerful shots, those, and Sehwag is getting into groove here at the Kotla. Could spell doom for Mumbai. Mahela Jayawardene then punches Bumrah for four straight down the ground. Seventeen runs come from the over and it’ll be a while before the youngster gets another bowl.

DD 17/0 | Overs 3 | Jayawardene 8*, Sehwag 8*

Jasprit Bumrah fumbles a difficult low catch at short fine-leg. Virender Sehwag then whips Munaf Patel off his hips for a four to the deep backward square-leg fence.

DD 10/0 | Overs 2 | Jayawardene 7*, Sehwag 2*

Jasprit Bumrah oversteps on his first ball and Virender Sehwag gets a Free Hit. However, Bumrah is clever and bowls wide of off stump, but not wide enough to be called one. Mahela Jayawardene then lifts the slow-medium bowler over cover for a couple. Not a very fast outfield here at the Kotla. Jayawardene makes up for it with a sweet hit to the long-on fence off the last ball after stepping out.

DD 2/0 | Overs 1 | Jayawardene 1*, Sehwag 1*

Mahela Jayawardene comes out to open Delhi Daredevil’s batting along with Virender Sehwag as Delhi continue to shuffle their top order. The two openers just get two singles off Lasith Malinga’s first over.

MI 161/4 | Overs 20 | Pollard 19*, Ambati 2*

Shahbaz Nadeem drops Kieron Pollard mistimed swing at deep point. That’s the second catch he’s dropped today. Pollard punishes Delhi with a six off the last ball over long on to take Mumbai past the 160-mark.

MI 149/4 | Overs 19 | Pollard 9*, Ambati 0* OUT! Rohit 73(43)

Rohit Sharma makes use of Umesh Yadav’s short-pitched delivery and pulls it for four even as one hand comes off the handle of the bat. Umesh bowls good length next and Rohit merely flicks his wrists as the ball sails over the deep mid-wicket fence for half a dozen. Rohit goes for another maximum off the last ball of the over, trying to clear long-on, but Andre Russell stands tall and takes the catch. Fantastic innings from Rohit, unfortunately comes to and end!

MI 135/3 | Overs 18 | Rohit 65*, Pollard 2*

Rohit Sharma picks up Ajit Agarkar’s slower delivery and lifts it miles in the air but past the deep mid-wicket boundary for six. Agarkar errs with a full toss later in the over and this time, Rohit cracks it off the middle of the bat for another maximum and further past the rope.

MI 120/3 | Overs 17 | Rohit 53*, Pollard 1* OUT! Tendulkar 54(47)

Sachint Tendulkar reaches out to his right to reach Umesh Yadav’s wayward delivery that would definitely have been called a wide, and hits it straight to David Warner at mid-off. End of a pressure-releasing innings for Tendulkar. Just two runs are scored from the over. Kieron Pollard is the new man in and the stage is set for is fireworks.

MI 118/2 | Overs 16 | Tendulkar 54*, Rohit 52*

Sachin Tendulkar shuffles across the stumps to Ajit Agarkar’s full-length delivery drigting down the leg and lifts it over fine-leg for six. Tendulkar brings up his firs half-century of this season’s IPL and 13th overall in the process.

MI 107/2 | Overs 15 | Tendulkar 44*, Rohit 51*

Rohit Sharma swats Irfan Pathan for a boundary between deep mid-wicket and long-on. His strike-rate has now surged above 150. Rohit gets his half-century with a hard slap to the deep backward point fence. The second Strategic Timeout is taken.

MI 95/2 | Overs 14 | Tendulkar 43*, Rohit 41*

Rohit Sharma spanks Roelof van der Merwe’s full toss wide on long-on for a boundary. Terrific placing, that! Eight runs come off the over. How many can Mumbai get in the last six? They would be targeting minimum 150.

MI 87/2 | Overs 13 | Tendulkar 40*, Rohit 36*

Rohit Sharma drives Umesh Yadav just wide of a diving David Warner at mid-off for a boundary, before mistiming a pull-shot that went high in the air but managed to land wide of long-on for four more valuable runs. Rohit almost runs himself out off the last ball of the over, but replays confirm that he just made his ground. Loud cheers all around the Kotla! You’d think this match was being played in Mumbai!

MI 74/2 | Overs 12 | Tendulkar 39*, Rohit 25*

Sachin Tendulkar spanks Shahbaz Nadeem straight back to the bowler, who drops the catch. How far will he go on to rue that? The 50-partnership comes up in 39 deliveries. Just four runs come from Nadeem’s final over, who ends with figures of 4-0-20-0.

MI 70/2 | Overs 11 | Tendulkar 37*, Rohit 23*

Sachin Tendulkar swivels and pulls Andre Russell for four past deep square-leg. Umesh Yadav should have stopped that at the fence. Delhi have been a little sloppy in the field. Rohit Sharma then obliges to spank Russell’s full toss into the crowd behind deep mid-wicket. The second-half push on has begun.

MI 57/2 | Overs 10 | Tendulkar 31*, Rohit 16*

Shahbaz Nadeem bowls a good third over, conceding just three runs. The spinner from Jharkhand has been very impressive with the ball in IPL 6. Meanwhule, Mumbai will be aiming for at least 100 more runs to set a decent target on this pitch in the next 10 overs.

MI 53/2 | Overs 9 | Tendulkar 30*, Rohit 13*

Rohit Sharma hits a visually pleasing six straight down the ground and into the second tier. The Mumbai lad steps out to Roelof van der Merwe and plays a beautiful lofted straight drive off the middle of the bat. That deserved a dozen! The first Strategic Timeout is taken at the end of the over.

MI 43/2 | Overs 8 | Tendulkar 28*, Rohit 5*

Sachin Tendulkar plays a delicate paddle sweep off Shahbaz Nadeem, who goes up in appeal. Tendulkar politely shows the bat to the umpire, who agrees. The Little Master is getting things moving for Mumbai.

MI 35/2 | Overs 7 | Tendulkar 22*, Rohit 3*

It’s Mumbai vs Mumbai at the Kotla as Ajit Agarkar comes in to bowl to his Ranji teammates. Sachin Tendulkar, who has played enough of Agarkar in the nets for Mumbai, swivels and pulls the bowler over deep mid-wicket for the first six of the innings.

MI 24/2 | Overs 6 | Tendulkar 13*, Rohit 1* OUT! D Karthik 2(6)

Dinesh Karthik is out and in the most unfortunate manner! Sachin Tendulkar punches Umesh Yadav’s delivery down the pitch; the bowler gets his fingers to it as the ball goes on to hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end with Karthik out of his crease. Huge wicket for the Delhi Daredevils! Just two runs come from the over and the home team are off to a great start.

MI 22/1 | Overs 5 | Tendulkar 12*, D Karthik 2*

Sachin Tendulkar hits his first boundary with a nice punch down the ground past a diving mid-off. Mumbai Indians need to shift gears now. There’s only one over of the fielding restrictions left.

MI 12/1 | Overs 4 | Tendulkar 3*, D Karthik 1* OUT! D Smith 8(12)

Roelof van der Merwe comes into the attack and Dwayne Smith swipes him over cover for the first boundary of the innings. However, van der Merwe has the last laugh as Smith tries to hit the South African over mid-off, but Umesh Yadav jumps up and takes the catch on the second attempt. Dinesh Karthik comes un at his usual No 3 position, ahead of Ricky Ponting.

MI 7/0 | Overs 3 | D Smith 4*, Tendulkar 3*

Sachin Tendulkar struggles to connect bat with ball in Irfan Pathan’s second over. Quiet start from Mumbai here. They need a good first-wicket partnership.

MI 6/0 | Overs 2 | D Smith 3*, Tendulkar 3*

Shahbaz Nadeem bowls the second over and gives away four singles. Remeber there is no Morne Morkel today for Delhi.

MI 2/0 | Overs 1 | D Smith 1*, Tendulkar 1*

Ricky Ponting has finally decided not to open and it’s Dwayne Smith who takes strike with Sachin Tendulkar at the other end. The duo take a single each of Irfan Pathan’s first over.

Mumbai Indians captain Ricky Ponting has won the toss against the Delhi Daredevils and elected to bat.

Quite a few changes from both sides. Mahela Jayawardene reveals at the toss that, “Jeevan Mendis has got a bit of a sting in his finger. Morne Morkel is out. [Manpreet] Juneja has been left out too. [Roelof] van der Merwe, Andre Russell and Venugopal Rao come in.”

As for Mumbai, Mitchell Johnson misses out and Munaf Patel comes in. Wonder what thought process went behind that!

“Dwayne Smith, Munaf Patel and [Jasprit] Bumrah are in,” says Ponting. ” [Mitchell] Johnson, [Pragyan] Ojha and Rishi Dhawan are out.”

Good afternoon and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the 28th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

This is Jaideep Vaidya and I will be bringing you over-by-over updates of the match.

The Daredevils have lost all six games they have played so far and would be desperate to get their first two points of the tournament. Mumbai, after a humiliating 86-run loss to Rajasthan Royals in their last outing, would like to resume normal service.

In the 11 head-to-head battles between the two teams, Mumbai have a slender lead of six wins to Delhi’s five. Read our preview by Prakash Govindasreenivasan here.
