Mumbai: May 13, 2013
MI 167/3 | Overs 19.3 | Rohit 20*, Pollard 66* (Mumbai Indians win by seven wickets)
Perera comes back to bowl the final over and Pollard slams him for a six off the first delivery. He finishes it with another maximum off the third ball. He has eight sixes in his knock of 56 from 26 deliveries. Hyderabad have been ransacked. Just four over ago, they were on course to take the fourth spot from Bangalore. Pollard had other plans. His insane knock helps Mumbai knock CSK off the perch and take the top of the table.
MI 167/3 | Overs 19 | Rohit 20*, Pollard 54*
Dale Steyn comes back but he cannot turn this game around. He concedes five runs but Mumbai need just five runs from the last over.
MI 167/3 | Overs 18 | Rohit 19*, Pollard 50*
Pollard is going insane here! Amit Mishra comes on but it makes no difference to the big West Indian. He slams two more sixes! Pressure gets the better of Mishra and he bowls a waist height no ball which disappears for another six. Pollard's 50 has come in 19 balls. Mumbai have managed 50 runs in the last two overs. They now need just 13 from the remaining two overs.
MI 146/3 | Overs 17 | Rohit 18*, Pollard 31*
29 runs from the Perera over! Sharma hits a HUGE six over deep square leg to keep Mumbai alive and kicking. Perera continues with the short stuff and is punished accordingly. Pollard this time. He pulls one over midwicket region for a boundary and follows it up with a six over Sammy at long on. Two more sixes! 29 runs from the over! Pollard is absolutely on fire. Mumbai need 33 from the last three over.
MI 117/3 | Overs 16 | Rohit 11*, Pollard 9*
What a snorter from Dale Steyn! He comes back and bowls a peach-of-a-delivery to square up Pollard and beat his bat by a whisker. Steyn is fired up. Pollard can manage just a single off the next delivery. He is bowling at over 140 kmph at the fag end of the game. Rohit Sharma swings his bat but he cant get anywhere close to the ball. Steyn is absolutely fired up and Pollard can only block a short delivery bowled at him. What an important over from Steyn. He has only four runs to offer. He still has an over to bowl and Mumbai need 62 off the last four overs. This is starting to look highly unlikely.
MI 113/3 | Overs 15 | Rohit 10*, Pollard 7*
Rohit Sharma plays a glorious pull off Ishant Sharma for a six to ease the pressure. Pollard also gets into the act with a shot over mid off. Ishant finishes with a good full delivery but the over has fetched 13 runs. Mumbai need 66 from the last five overs.
MI 100/3 | Overs 14 | Rohit 3*, Pollard 1* OUT! Rayudu 2 (5)
Karan Sharma strikes again! He bowls a flipper, quicker through the air as Rayudu steps out for a slog. He fails to connect and Patel is sharp behind the stumps. Hyderabad are slowly getting a better grip on this game. However, the Wankhede crowd goes into a frenzy as Kieron Pollard walks out. Lovely over from Sharma. One run and a big wicket. Mumbai need 79 from the last six overs.
MI 99/2 | Overs 13 | Rohit 3*, Rayudu 2*
Has Ambati Rayudu survived a poor umpiring decision here? Sammy and Parthiv are sure about an under edge. White can't believe but the umpire is sure that wasn't out. Replays suggest the umpire was spot on as the ball brushed Rayudu's shoulders. Four runs come from the over.
MI 95/2 | Overs 12 | Rohit 1*, Rayudu 0* Retired Hurt! Tendulkar 38 (31) OUT! Karthik 30 (23)
It takes one poor ball from Karan Sharma to bring back images of Tendulkar of 1998 as he steps out and slams the ball on the highest row over long on of the Sachin Tendulkar stand. He has done some damage to his left-hand. The physio comes out for a treatment. Oh Gosh! Turn away if you are a Mumbai Indians supporter because Tendulkar is walking off here. The break has given the fielding side a breather and they manage to get rid of a set Karthik. This is bad news for Mumbai here.
MI 81/1 | Overs 10 | Tendulkar 27*, Karthik 29*
Karthik picks up the slower delivery and hits it for a much-needed boundary. Mumbai collect nine runs from the over.
MI 73/1 | Overs 10 | Tendulkar 25*, Karthik 23*
Amit Mishra bowls well to keep the pressure on the batsmen. They can only eke out six singles. Mumbai manage 73 for one at the half-way stage.
MI 67/1 | Overs 9 | Tendulkar 22*, Karthik 20*
Two legspinners bowl in tandem as Karan Sharma comes on. Tendulkar slams an inside-out boundary to hit is 291st four in the history of the tournament. Eight runs from the over.
MI 59/1 | Overs 8 | Tendulkar 16*, Karthik 19*
Amit Mishra starts well but ends with a boundary through midwicket for Dinesh Karthik. They are treading cautiously with the asking rate going over 10 runs per over.
MI 50/1 | Overs 7 | Tendulkar 13*, Karthik 13*
Karthik welcomes Darren Sammy with a boundary behind point. He then walks out and hits it behind square for a couple of runs. A good over for the home side, 11 runs from it.
MI 39/1 | Overs 6 | Tendulkar 11*, Karthik 6*
Ishant Sharma bowls a tidy over. Only four runs come off it.
MI 35/1 | Overs 5 | Tendulkar 9*, Karthik 4*
Thisara Perera comes in and gives nothing away to Tendulkar in the first four deliveries. Tendulkar can only find different fielders in the first four balls but punches the fifth ball over Perera's head for a boundary. The crowd have got their money's worth...almost.
MI 30/1 | Overs 4 | Tendulkar 1*, Karthik 4* OUT! Smith 21 (17)
Middle-stump knocked over! Ishant Sharma gets rid of Dwayne Smith with a ball that could not have been straighter! Smith goes for a blind swing and has his middle-stump knocked back. He bowls a couple of good deliveries to new batsman Dinesh Karthik but strays to the leg side in the final delivery and Karthik is quick to flick it to the deep midwicket boundary.
MI 23/0 | Overs 3 | Tendulkar 1*, Smith 21*
Smith gets lucky..twice! Two good deliveries from Steyn go for a boundary through third man after taking the edge of Smith's bat. 10 runs come from the over.
MI 13/0 | Overs 2 | Tendulkar 0*, Smith 12*
Smith charges down the track and flicks Ishant Sharma towards the deep fineleg boundary. Shikhar Dhawan makes a valiant effort but cannot reach the ball. Ishant concedes eight runs in the first over.
MI 5/0 | Overs 1 | Tendulkar 0*, Smith 5*
Dale Steyn steams and bowls two good deliveries but bowls fractionally short and Dwayne Smith pulls him for a boundary. A misfield in the final delivery gives Mumbai their fifth run.
SRH: 178/3 | Overs 20 | White 43*, Perera 2*
Dhawal Kulkarni bowls the final over. He starts well with a full length delivery to Perera who can only get a single from it. He does well to concede just three runs in the first five deliveries but White manages to get behind the final delivery and slam a six over deep cover. A good solid batting performance by Hyderabad, this. They have managed 178 for three, which also happens to be the average score on this ground. Is it enough for Steyn & Co.? We will have to wait and find out.
SRH: 169/3 | Overs 19 | White 36*, Perera 1* OUT! Vihari 41 (37)
Vihari perishes! He tries to hoick a short delivery on the off-side but can only find Johnson at cover. He goes for a well made 41. Perera walks out as Malinga finishes the over with just five runs from it.
SRH: 164/2 | Overs 18 | Vihari 40*, White 34*
Poor start from Johnson. He starts with a slower bouncer which is smacked away for a boundary by White. Ambati Rayudu misses a shocker in the next delivery when he fumbles the ball after Johnson gets White to hit the ball high in the air. After some delay when a caught behind appeal went to the TV umpire, White finished the over with a big six over square leg.
SRH: 152/2 | Overs 17 | Vihari 39*, White 23*
Malinga returns for his third over and ties the batsmen down to four singles in the first four deliveries. Malinga attemps a yorker and the shin-level full toss is hit towards the mid-wicket boundary, only for Kieron Pollard to save it inches away from the ropes. Only two runs are picked. The over ends with a single. Only seven runs from it.
SRH: 145/2 | Overs 16 | Vihari 37*, White 17*
Vihari has shifted gears very well here. Following Dhawan's departure, he has transitioned from a second fiddle to the aggressor. He welcomes Ojha with a slog sweep for a boundary over midwicket. White, meanwhile, does not want to be too far behind. Ojha tosses the ball up and White dances down the track and hits for a straight six. They are throwing their bat at almost everything here. 14 runs from the over.
SRH: 131/2 | Overs 15 | Vihari 30*, White 11*
Vihari pulls a short delivery from Dhawal to the sqaure leg boundary to give his side a good start to the over. A happy looking Tom Moody does a shadow practice of the same shot in the dug out. Dhawan comes up with more short stuff, this time a bouncer to White who moves his front leg out of the way and hits it to the deep midwicket boundary. He follows it up with a straight back boundary. Poor bowling from Kulkarni. The over ends with 15 runs from it.
SRH: 116/2 | Overs 14 | Vihari 24*, White 2*
Pragyan Ojha comes back. A good over here. Only five runs from it.
SRH: 111/2 | Overs 13 | Vihari 21*, White 0* OUT! Dhawan 59 (41)
Mitchell Johnson comes back to strike! What a big wicket this for Mumbai. Dhawan comes down the wicket and tries to guide the ball past the keeper but doesn not get enough on it. He goes for a well-made 59. The over that started with a boundary from Vihari ends with the wicket of Dhawan. Time for Mumbai to pull things back?
SRH: 104/1 | Overs 12 | Dhawan 58*, Vihari 15*
A good over from Harbhajan, only six runs from it but Hyderabad have brought up their 100.
SRH: 98/1 | Overs 11 | Dhawan 56*, Vihari 12*
Malinga comes back from the other end and starts with a slow yorker. Vihari does well not to get deceived and plays it out for a single. It brings up the 50-run stand between Dhawan and Vihari. Malinga bowls another slower one but on Dhawan's pads who brushes it away towards the deep backward point boundary and gets a couple of runs. Malinga then lets out another nasty bouncer which Dhawan can only watch go past his bat to Karthik. However, the over ends with two boundaries — one through the covers and one behind square with the first one bringing up his half-century.
SRH: 87/1 | Overs 10 | Dhawan 46*, Vihari 11*
Rohit Sharma throws the ball to medium-pacer Kieron Pollard. After picking four runs from three deliveries, Dhawan guides the fourth ball to the third man boundary. He tries to play a cheeky upper cut but ends going too early into the shot in the next delivery and can only manage a single. A single to end the over. Hyderabad have started well with 87 for one at the half-way stage. However, a lot will depend on how they finish.
SRH: 77/1 | Overs 9 | Dhawan 40*, Vihari 6*
Pragyan Ojha continues and Dhawan plays a reverse sweep to the guide it between short thirdman and point to the boundary. Seven runs come from the over.
SRH: 70/1 | Overs 8 | Dhawan 34*, Vihari 6*
Kulkarni comes back and bowls from around the wicket to Dhawan. He pitches it up and Dhawan jumps onto it and times it well through the offside. Good fielding from Dwayne Smith saves a certain boundary. Kulkarni follows it up with a good length delivery on the off side and Dhawan punishes it through point. Kulkarni does well to finish with just six runs from the over.
SRH: 63/1 | Overs 7 | Dhawan 27*, Vihari 6*
Pragyan Ojha comes in and Dhawan slams him for a six. Ojha bowls a flighted delivery and Dhawan goes down on one knee and clears the deep midwicket boundary. A good over for the visitors, 11 runs come from it.
SRH: 52/1 | Overs 6 | Dhawan 18*, Vihari 4*
Harbhajan comes back. He gives nothing away to Dhawan until the penultimate ball of the over which is slightly on Dhawan's legside. Dhawan wastes no time in coming forward and playing a sweep to guide it to the backward squareleg boundary. 50 comes up for the visitors.
SRH: 44/1 | Overs 5 | Dhawan 11*, Vihari 4*
Patel's wicket brings Johnson back. He bowls to Vihari and keeps him quiet. A good over ends with a boundary through point. Johnson is a bit unhappy. He thought that could have been stopped by the diving fielder.
SRH: 39/1 | Overs 4 | Dhawan 10* OUT! Patel 26 (14)
Lasith Malinga comes in and he strikes! Patel never looked comfortable and eventually perished in the fifth ball of the over. Malinga starts with a couple of slower deliveries and Parthiv was lucky when Dhawal Kulkarni grassed a pretty straightforward chance at mid-off. Malinga follows it up with a short delivery, which Patel evades but is tempted to go for a pull in the next ball. Unfortunately for him, he can only find Ambati Rayudu at deep square leg.
SRH: 36/0 | Overs 3 | Patel 25*, Dhawan 8*
Rohit Sharma brings Harbhajan Singh into the attack to bring down the scoring. Nice to see Harbhajan toss the ball up. It's hard to remember when he did that before this year's IPL. A good over from Mumbai's perspective, just five from it. Hyderabad still have 36 from just three overs.
SRH: 31/0 | Overs 2 | Patel 22*, Dhawan 7*
Hyderabad is having a rare good start against Mumbai here. Dhawal bowls one short outside offstump to Shikhar Dhawan who tries to cut it and the top-edge results in a six. Meanwhile, Patel continues his sublime timing. Wonder what he had for lunch today! He drives a length delivery through the offside for his fifth boundary of the day.
SRH: 19/0 | Overs 1 | Patel 18*, Dhawan 0*
Not the best start for Mitchell Johnson. He strays down the legside and Parthiv Patel flicks the first delivery through midwicket for a boundary. Johnson seems to have woken up from the wrong side of the bed. He concedes three more boundaries, one through square leg, one through covers and the final through midwicket. 19 runs from the opening over. What a start for the visitors!
A crucial tie for both the sides here. The home side, under Rohit Sharma, has been very good so far. They are another one of those sides who have made their home ground a fortress and protected it well, winning six out of six matches. A win will put them back to the second spot as their Net Run Rate is superior to that of the Rajasthan Royals who took their second spot with a win over the Chennai Super Kings. As for the visitors, it will take a lot of effort to beat Mumbai at Wankhede. However, if they manage that, they will nudge Royal Challengers Bangalore to take the fourth spot. All to play for at Wankhede. Can Steyn & Co. inspire another unlikely win for the Sunrisers? Or will Rohit Sharma's tenure as a skipper only get better? We will have to wait and find out.
Sunrisers Hyderbad skipper Cameron White won the toss and elected to bat against Mumbai Indians in the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League 2013.
Two changes for Mumbai Indians with Kieron Pollard coming back for Glenn Maxwell and Abu Nechim is replaced by Dhawal Kulkarni. Hyderabad retain their same side that beat the Kings XI Punjab.
