Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), after being asked by Bombay High Court (HC) to shift the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches from Maharashtra, are all set to appeal for one extra match at Pune. The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium at Pune is the home ground of the new IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) and will have a closely packed scheduled towards April end. BCCI now have claimed that the arrangements cannot be done within the span between two consecutive matches and will appeal to the HC for one more match to be played at Pune itself to solve the problem. As reported by The Times of India, IPL governing council chairman Rajiv Shukla has said, “Since there are back-to back matches of on April 29 and May 1 in Pune, it will be almost impossible to move the equipment in 24 hours to another venue. So we will appeal on Friday to the Mumbai HC to let us conduct one more match in Pune. Rest of the matches will be shifted out of Maharashtra”.
“We are equally sympathetic towards the farmers. We also agree with the court that the interest of the farmers is paramount. The matter has been settled by the court. Whatever the court has said we are ready to do,” he added.
Talking about the probable venues, Shukla said, “While Kanpur, Vishakhapatnam and Raipur are front runners, other venues like Jaipur, Bangalore and Indore can also be in the running. Pune requested for Kolkata (to host their home matches) but technically it’s very difficult because it is the designated home ground of Kolkata Knight Riders.”
