After Gujarat Lions (GL) registered yet another victory in the ninth season of Indian Premier League (IPL), team’s opener and key player Brendon McCullum has praised teammate Dwayne ‘Champion’ Bravo saying that he is the best overseas player in the current edition of IPL. This is the first time Gujarat Lions are a part of IPL and the inaugural year has been immensely fruitful for the team as they bagged two consecutive victories, the second one against a strong Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) led by India’s limited-over skipper MS Dhoni with help of McCullum’s brilliant partnership with Aaron Finch. Talking to iplt20.com, McCullum said, “In my opinion, Dwayne Bravo is the best overseas player in the IPL. He is so valuable with ball, bat and in the field and is a leader. We are very lucky to have him.” He also praised James Faulkner saying, “Faulkner is going to get better and better as he plays more. He is a world class bowler and he is just getting his stride back. He is going to be a big player for us. He will play a role with the bat at some point and we know how devastating he can be.”
When asked if the Australia-New Zealand rivalry comes between while batting with Finch, the Kiwi legend said, “The fierce rivalry is made out to be bigger than what it is. We’re trying to do the same thing. That’s the beauty of the IPL. It brings guys from different countries and cultures together to try and achieve a common goal. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but one thing you take back from the IPL is great friendships, which lasts a long time after you’ve finished playing. “
