IPL 2016: Justice Mudgal appointed by High Court to oversee Feroz Shah Kotla matches

Delhi High Court today appointed Justice (Retd) Mukul Mudgal as observer to oversee the affairs of the upcoming IPL 2016 matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium here. A bench of justices S Muralidhar and Vibhu Bakhru directed Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) to extend “full co-operation” to Justice Mudgal, who was also a judge of the Delhi High Court before his elevation as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. On November 18 last year, the high court had paved the way for DDCA to hold the India-South Africa test match at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium here and appointed Justice Mudgal to oversee the affairs of the match. It had also said that his remuneration for the assignment will be decided by him only and DDCA will pay the same to him. “Accordingly, Justice Mukul Mudgal is requested to continue as observer in pursuance to the November 18, 2015 order. DDCA will extend full co-operation to him,” the bench said.
The retired judge, who was also an observer for the recently concluded World Cup T20 matches here, had headed the Supreme Court-appointed panel to inquire into the allegations of corruption against former BCCI chief N Srinivasan’s son-in -law Gurunath Meiyappan, India Cements, and others and charges of betting and spot-fixing in the 2013 IPL matches.
During the hearing today, advocate Sangram Patnaik, who appeared for DDCA, told the bench that the cricketing body has no difficulty if Justice Mudgal continues as observer for the upcoming IPL matches here.
