Balanced and comprehensive. Yes, these are the two words that define the Delhi Daredevils team of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016. After spending 8 seasons, without a single trophy to their name, DD enter IPL season 9 as a strong and competent unit which could break the curse this time around. Under the mentorship of one of India’s finest cricketers Rahul Dravid, DD will look to put their best foot forward and go far in the tournament. Zaheer Khan, as captain though, will have to play a key role if that has to be achieved. IPL 2016 Schedule: Indian Premier League 9 Full Time Table with Venue & Ground details
DD this year will be counting on their batsmen more than anyone else to put in their best performance, as their batting hasn’t been impressive over the years. Indian players like Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair, Akhil Herwadkar and Sanju Samson will need to step up big-time whenever they get an opportunity as their efforts would count for lot. Among the foreign players wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy might have to play an anchor role for their side as they can not only hold the innings together, but can accelerate the scoring too.
Another interesting aspect to DD are their all-rounders. Chris Morris, the South African who was earlier part of Chennai Super Kings could come very handy because of his yorkers and his slogging abilities too. But what turned out to be the buy of the season for DD, is the West Indies big-hitter Carlos Brathwaite. Brathwaite is known for successfully handling the finishers role and was applauded for leading his team to unexpected win in T20 World Cup 2016 final against England. Apart from them, Pawan Negi, the left-hand batsman can be and important aspect for the team. READ: Delhi Daredevils team in IPL 2016 Preview: Zaheer Khan led squad looks to break the jinx in
The bowling for DD looks fine on paper too. With Zaheer Khan as the frontline seamer, and Mohammad Shami, quick wickets can be possible on the chart. Nathan Coulter- Nile is also an exciting bowler to watch out for. Meanwhile, the spin attack looks good too with the experienced bowler Imran Tahir from South Africa might turn out to be the spin king in this year’s IPL, alongside are Amit Mishra and Shahbaz Nadeem. To sum up, this could be the season for DD to break the jinx, as the squad they have on paper, looks balanced in all departments.
