Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off a much-anticipated win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. KKR had put up a competitive 174 for 5, thanks to a typically steady 45-ball 59 from KKR captain Gautam Gambhir. In return, MI lost a few early wickets before Kieron Pollard joined MI captain Rohit Sharma. At that stage MI required 69 runs from 42 balls. However, as Rohit held one end up, Pollard went bonkers at the other end, slamming the joint third-fastest fifty in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). As Rohit masterminded the chase with a sedate 49-ball unbeaten 68, Pollard ensured that MI romped home with two overs to spare. In the process Pollard also joined Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan in the league of batsmen to have scored fifty-plus IPL scores with a strike rate of over 300.
