Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) star batsman Shaun Marsh will miss tonight’s contest against the newcomers Gujarat Lions (GL) at IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. The southpaw has been admitted to the hospital early morning due to food poisoning. Marsh was fit and fine in Sunday’s training session but came down with the illness overnight. One of the KXIP officials confirmed that Marsh was admitted to the hospital as a precaution. The other KXIP players to go down with food poisoning were Kyle Abott and Marcus Stoinis this week. Fortunately, these players recovered well in time ahead of the KXIP’s first contest. FULL SCORECARD: Kings XI Punjab vs Gujarat Lions, Match No. 3, IPL 2016 at Mohali
Marsh has been one of the heartening aspects of KXIP over the years. He burst into the scene with his spectacular performance in inaugural season of Indian Premier League (IPL). In IPL 2008, he plundered 616 runs in 11 matches at a staggering average of 68.44 and an impressive strike-rate of 139.58. However, Marsh is just short of 9 runs short of scoring 2,000 runs in IPL. Given KXIP is playing on their home turf, Marsh would have been itching to play in this T20 spectacle. IPL 2016 Schedule, Time Table, Fixture PDF Download
Given the kind of KXIP featured over the years, they were not able to make a lasting impact. As a matter of fact, they gained a foothold in the finals of IPL only once, that is, in 2014; but were outplayed and outwitted by Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KXIP have appointed South Africa’s emerging batsman David Miller as their new captain. Miller would be hoping for Marsh to get fit and fine for the upcoming encounters.
