Man of the Match from Mumbai Indians’s last IPL win, Lendl Simmons went for a 5-ball duck with the ball swinging both ways. Trent Boult who came in for Chris Woakes revved up some good pace that saw Simmons hold out to his Caribbean teammate Sunil Narine at mid off. Rohit Sharma joined Tiwary in the middle with bowling conditions favouring  fast bowlers. Tiwary meanwhile continued to ride his luck knocking over cheeky boundaries. The pair brought up their 50-run stand in 29 balls.

Ankit Rajpoot struck into his first over, getting the crucial wicket of Rohit. Rohit trying to nudge the ball towards thirdman missed the line and got struck in front of the stumps for 27. Tiwary after a slow start launched into Narine en route his first IPL half-century this season. Tiwary got to his fifty in 42 balls. Just after his fifty Tiwary was run out by Umesh Yadav, in a single call by Rayudu. Tiwary made 52 off 43.

With final few overs to go, both Rayudu and Kieron Pollard tore into the Kolkata Knight Riders bowling. Rayudu in no time recorded his fifty in 32 balls via a lip-smacking six over backward square leg. Pollard, joined six-hitting party soon with Rayudu going great guns. Rayudu who whacked Kuldeep Yadav for 10 runs on the previous three-balls was outfoxed by the Chinaman bowler. Rayudu came dancing down the track, misread the googly and got his stumps rattled by the keeper for a 37-ball 63.

Pollard in an attempt to muscle Boult ended up giving Yusuf Pathan a simple catch at covers for 13. For Mumbai Indians it was Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya who remained not out on 0 and 1 respectively.
