‘Good Friday’ turned out to be a special one for the bowlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), with as many as two bowlers claiming hat-tricks in two consecutive matches. In the first match on Friday, playing his first game for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Samuel Badree claimed a hat-trick against Mumbai Indians (MI) to derail their innings in a modest chase. In the second game on Friday, a faltering Gujarat Lions (GL) decided to hand Andrew Tye his IPL debut, and the right-arm pacer responded with a hat-trick in the final over of Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) innings. Tye claimed the wickets of Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur in the final over of Rising Pune Supergiant’s innings to create a record of taking a hat-trick on IPL debut. Tye’s effort helped Gujarat Lions in restricting Rising Pune Supergiant for 171 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Earlier in the day, Badree had rocked Mumbai Indians when he accounted for Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma in the third over of the second innings to register the first hat-trick of IPL 2017. Till Friday, there were no hat-tricks in IPL 10 but Match Nos. 12 and 13 have witnessed bowlers having their say.
Tye has two hat-tricks in T20 cricket, with Amit Mishra leading the table with three. Yuvraj Singh and Lennox Crush also have two hat-tricks in T20 cricket.
