Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) succumbed to their fourth straight defeat in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Hosting their second last game of the season, RCB were up against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) but failed to chase 139 for victory. Once again, M Chinnaswamy’s crowds were left shattered as Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers failed to live up to expectations and were dismissed within the Powerplay. KXIP’s bowlers made a mockery of the much-famed line-up. Aniket Choudhary, RCB’s most successful bowler, spoke about the team loss and stated that they wanted to win the game for the spectators but sadly could not. Aniket stated, “You can say it’s a bad timing. Our batsmen are not clicking at the same time. We restricted them for a small total and wanted to start aggressively in the first six overs, but it again fell against us. It was not a huge total, we wanted to win for the crowds as there is nothing for us in the tournament now. But sadly we lost”, Aniket was quoted as saying by iplt20.com.
RCB are languishing at the bottom of the points table with only 2 victories. Their next game is against Kolkata knight Riders (KKR) which will also be their last match at home. On the other hand, KXIP remain in contention for a spot in the playoffs with a 19-run win over RCB. Currently, they are placed at the fifth position and their next clash is against Gujarat Lions in Mohali on Sunday.
