Finding the distribution of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 passes biased, Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has questioned Vikramjit Sen, the Delhi High Court-appointed administrator in-charge. A major portion of the passes allotted for several IPL matches for former players, underprivileged children and local cricket clubs are learnt to have been distributed among staffs of the justice department, four passes each to his seven staff members as well as to the income tax officials. The passes allotted to DDCA amount close to INR 60 lakh per match and include the ones that cost around INR 14,000 each, which are the ones in the hospitality box area. As reported by Indian Express, DDCA Members’ Forum convenor and former judge of Supreme Court, Pramod Kumar Jain, wrote a letter to Sen on April 29 which read, “I wish to draw your kind attention to the distribution of complimentary passes which DDCA receives. There is no detail available as to how these passes were distributed for the two matches already held or who was made in-charge of the distribution and whether a record of the same has been kept.”
Sen, while asked about the same, revealed that the detail of the distribution of passes is available on the DDCA website. However, the data on the website confirm that Income Tax department officers and members of Sen’s judiciary had received the passes.
“Various Government Authorities such as IT Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, members of the judiciary, members of the inquiry committee constituted on behalf of DDCA (40 passes). Four tickets to each member of Justice Sen’s office (28),” is what the website reveals about the matter.
Jain’s letter also questioned the distribution of DDCA’s accreditation cards, few of which were issued to those who are not a member of DDCA’s IPL committees.
On the matter, Sen replied, “As regards (to) accreditation, the same has been given only to those who have been actively involved in the preparation and execution of IPL and other crucial DDCA activities where they are required to have access to the stadium at all times.”
