Mumbai Indians (MI) had to undergo a 7-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 48 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Opting to bat first, MI were halted for a lowly total of 138 for 7 in 20 overs as Siddarth Kaul (3 for 24), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2 for 29) put up an impressive performance along with Mohammad Nabi (4-0-13-1) and Rashid Khan (1 for 22). For MI, Rohit Sharma played a knock of 67 from 45 deliveries to take his team to a decent total. MI are still at the top of the IPL 2017 points table with 18 points despite losing against SRH, which is also their third defeat in IPL 2017. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) vs Mumbai Indians (MI), IPL 10 match 48

Irrespective of having ended on the losing side, MI have secured their position for the playoffs and look pretty comfortable at the top of the table. But talking about defeat, Rohit said expressed his unhappiness on his side’s performance with the bat. “Not enough runs on the board. 138 was too less on that wicket. SRH bowled really well. They stuck to their plans and kept us guessing all the way through. We just wanted to try,” Rohit said during the presentation ceremony.

MI have been a successful chasing side as they have won majority of their games batting second. But on Monday, after winning the toss, Rohit opted to bat first and the game did not pan out as planned for the Mumbai side.

“We haven’t batted (first) much. We just wanted to try something different and it didn’t pay off. We have two more games left. We need to regroup as soon as we can and try to turn it around. Batting second was so much easier. If you don’t take wickets, it’s always going to be hard,” Rohit said.

Rohit also praised the effort of Shikhar Dhawan who scored match-winning 46 balls 62. He added, “Shikhar batted really well. It’s a great eye-opener as to what we need to do when we bat first. Toss is in nobody’s hand. We could be put to bat first. Today was a great lesson for us.”
