In the absence of Delhi Daredevils’ (DD) regular skipper Zaheer Khan, Karun Nair led the side and were thrashed by Kings XI Punjab at Punjab (KXIP) Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Batting first, DD were bundled out for mere 67 by KXIP in the 36th match of 10th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). This was their lowest total for DD in IPL history and their fifth consecutive defeat in this season. With this defeat, DD remains to continue to remain at the bottom in points table. KXIP chased down the easy total of 68 in just 7.5 overs without losing any wicket. After this disastrous performance by DD, stand-in captain Nair blamed lack of intent for this loss and said, “Disappointing. Don’t think it was a 67 all-out wicket. We lost too many wickets at the start. It was just a lack of intent, I guess.”
Nair further added that there was no partnership in the middle which led to the collapse. He also mentioned that his side wanted to make it hard for KXIP to score every run despite the low score. “We didn’t get the kind of partnership we wanted. The team chat in the innings break was nothing much but we wanted to make them work for each run. I don’t think there was anything strange in the wicket. It was slightly slow but it wasn’t a 67 all-out wicket, as I said.”
This was DD’s eigth match in the tournament and to qualify for playoffs, they need to win rest of the six matches left. Their next match will be played against defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad at Feroz Shah Kotla on Monday.
