Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday presented a strong case of sportsmanship, during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. The incident occurred on the final ball of the fourth over of Mumbai Indians’ chase of 179 against Kolkata Knight Riders, when Chris Lynn suffered a shoulder injury and immediately called for help from the dugout while attempting a catch. Lynn walked off the field immediately after putting in a big dive and was seen getting his shoulder strapped in the dressing room a few moments later. On the final ball of the fourth over, Mumbai Indians’ opener Jos Buttler hit one high in the air and Lynn, positioned at mid-off, went for the catch. The ball was very far and Lynn had to cover a lot of ground to reach it. But as the ball dropped safely, Lynn put in the dive with both his hands stretched in front. The impact of the dive was nasty on the left shoulder, as Lynn immediately signalled for help towards the dugout. The cricketer walked off the field immediately, not moving his left hand at all.
Meanwhile, as Lynn put in the dive and asked for help, the ball stopped short of the ropes. Mumbai Indians’ batsmen Buttler and Parthiv Patel did not take more than two runs, as there was no fielder backing Lynn up. Yusuf Pathan realised soon that the ball had stopped close to the ropes, and he made a dash to pick it up and throw it back in the middle.
