Gujarat Lions’ (GL) bowler Pradeep Sangwan did well on Monday night to rattle the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) with 2 early wickets, in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 Match No. 39. However, his side soon ran into a storm called Ben Stokes, who pummelled their bowlers all around the park to bring up his first IPL century, earning the third Man of the Match award for the Rising Pune Supergiant in 8 matches so far. On his part, Sangwan admitted that he erred by not deploying a gully in place, for Stokes as there were a couple of occasions the bowler could have snared that priced scalp. During the press conference, Sangwan was brave enough to admit his error in judgement. He said, “In a way it was a one-man show. We tried taking him out of the equation right from the beginning; off my bowling two catches went towards the gully. I did think about taking a gully fielder but I did not go ahead with it.” Sangwan also admitted in a video interview on iplt20.com that he has improved on the pace. “I have improved on my pace. I have been bowling over 140 kmph, it is important to have pace along with swing. Stokes hammered 103 not out off a mere 63 balls, smacking 6 sixes and 7 fours to power Rising Pune Supergiant to a comfortable victory by 5 wickets in the IPL 2017 contest.
Talking about how the game panned out for his side, Sangwan said, “You realise at the end that you were short by 20 runs. We were at 110 in around 12 overs, but we had lost 4-5 wickets. Later on we felt that we were about 20 runs short.”
