South Africa’s explosive wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock has been ruled out of the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 citing a finger injury. De Kock, who plays for the Delhi-based franchise Delhi Daredevils (DD), will miss the 10th edition after he suffered a ligament damage on his right index finger during the second Test against South Africa at Wellington. De Kock, however will feature in the third and final Test of the ongoing New Zealand-South Africa series after pressure from skipper Faf du Plessis. His injury will take up at least four weeks to heal as per South African team’s doctors. Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2017 schedule: Team and squad details, match timetable and venues
De Kock’s unavailability for IPL could also be in view of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy tournament and South Africa’s crucial Test series versus England. De Kock was purchased for Rs. 3.5 crore in the 2014 auctions by DD and since then has been their most consistent batsman. De Kock first featured in the IPL playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2013 edition.
Earlier in the week, DD suffered another jolt after all-rounder JP Duminy withdrew his participation from IPL 10. Duminy stated personal reasons for his absence from the season. “It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but it was for purely personal reasons. I’m grateful for the support and understanding from the franchise. It has been an absolute privilege to have played for and led a talented mix of players. I certainly hope to play a part for the franchise in the near future,” Duminy had said in a press release.
