In the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) surprised one and all by first making Chris Lynn open the innings, and then Sunil Narine. The move has paid off for them as both the players have justified their promotion up the order. Lynn, who injured himself on the field, was replaced by Narine, primarily a spinner. He has had a brilliant run at the top of the order, often dealing in boundaries and getting his side off to a flying start. Narine’s promotion as a pinch hitter to open the innings has triggered a debate if other sides should also do it.

Team India and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is currently nursing an injury that forced him to skip ongoing IPL 10, was recently asked by a fan on social media whether he would consider opening the batting in IPL just like Narine? He wrote, “@ashwinravi99 would you even like to open d batting like Narine in the next IPL season?#askash”. The conversation happened during Ashwin’s interactive session with his fans.

Ashwin, who is well known for his intelligence, spontaneity and wit, came up with an apt as well as funny reply. The off-spinner wrote, “@hemish444 My liking is one, the captain of the team should also like it”.

Ashwin was ruled out of the IPL 10 even before it commenced, as he was diagnosed with Sports Hernia. However, he has stayed connected with his fans on Twitter, giving them regular updates on his recovery. He also joined RPS at the Wankhede during their clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) to cheer for his team. RPS, who had a poor start to their campaign this year after a bad IPL 9, have since picked up pace. They are presently placed at the fourth place in the points table.
