With 8 catches so far in the 10th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma has credited fielding coach Jonty Rhodes for his impressive fielding in this season. Out of 8, Rohit took 3 catches in the 45th match of IPL 2017 against Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Saturday. The match, however, shall be remembered for DD’s collapse, as they crashed to the biggest-ever defeat in the history of IPL after losing by 146 runs. MI had scored 212 for 3 batting first and in reply, Delhi could manage just 66. Full Cricket Scorecard, Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2017, Match 45

“All credit goes to Jonty Rhodes, he has been working hard with the boys. I have been taking many catches. It is good to help the bowlers by taking those,” said Rohit during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Batting first, MI posted a good total of 212 for 3. This included half-centuries from two Caribbean batters — Lendls Simmons and Kieron Pollard. Chasing this huge total, DD were bowled out for mere 66, registering their lowest score in IPL history. With this win, MI secured their berth in playoffs. Rohit seemed extremely happy with MI’s another impressive show and said, “Absolutely, clinical from the start. The opening part set up the game for us. The kind of knock Lendl (Simmons) played was amazing to see, and then Polly (finished) off things. Absolutely clinical performance from the bowling unit to come out and win it by 146 runs. It is good to see that.”

Rohit further added that such victories give confidence over the team’s bench strength. “Gives you confidence when you know that the bench is so strong. He (Simmons) came and smacked it, never looked in two minds. Gives freedom to other guys as well,” said Rohit.

Talking about MI’s bowling, which was brilliant in this match, Rohit credited the bowlers the way they bowled in powerplay. “There’s lot of dew at this moment, so we were expecting it to be a tight game. But the way we bowled in the first six overs, took the game away from them. We have been preparing well, it is clear in our head what we want to execute. The work does not stop here, we won’t stop here. Next stop is Hyderabad in Hyderabad,” Rohit concluded.
