Ever since Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 has commenced, all eyes were on towards MS Dhoni. Dhoni was sacked as Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) skipper by owner Sanjiv Goenka before the IPL auction. Steven Smith was made in-charge, but Dhoni remained centre of attention. However, his willow remained silent in the first four games of the ongoing edition and faced criticism from all quarters. Nonetheless, Dhoni found some touch with a 25-ball 28 in RPS’ 27-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and his fans ‘trolled’ the ones who had come hard on him. This included a humongous six off Yuzvendra Chahal that landed on the rooftop of M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Amidst all this, Shane Warne also stood by Dhoni and termed him as a ‘class’ player. .@msdhoni does not have to prove anything to anyone, he’s class & a wonderful player in all formats. MS is also a great captain & inspires !

Warne stated that Dhoni is ‘inspirational’, adding that he does not have anything more to prove in any format. Dhoni also found support in Virender Sehwag and RPS captain Smith, none of whom was bothered about his dip in form. Dhoni had a torrid time in the first four games with scores of 12*, 5, 11, and 5.
Questions were raised over Dhoni’s lack of power hitting in the death overs and lean patch. In fact, the hashtag #Dhonidropped also made the rounds on Twitter a few days back. Nonetheless, his vital cameo against RCB will make Dhoni feel at ease and try to churn out a long innings in the next game.
