Shikhar Dhawan smashed an unbeaten 62 off 46 deliveries to help Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeat Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 48 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) gained two crucial points, solidifying their case for qualifying for the IPL 10 playoffs. Moreover, SRH also pushed out Delhi Daredevils (DD) from the race, taking away their slim chances of qualifying for the next stage of IPL 2017. Dhawan, who was selected in India’s Champions Trophy 2017 squad, justified his selection by playing a responsible innings. Chasing a slender target of 139, Dhawan added 91 runs for the fourth wicket with Moises Henriques (44) to lay the foundation of a successful run-chase.
“I was very happy that my name got into the Champions Trophy squad,” said Dhawan during the post-match presentation ceremony.
SRH suffered an early setback in their run-chase as their skipper David Warner (6) was dismissed early by Mitchell McClenaghan. Talking about losing Warner early, Dhawan said, “Davey (Warner) got out early and I knew that I had to stay out and take the team home. Moises did well to play along too.”
Dhawan, who hammered 4 boundaries and 1 six, in his knock of 62 not out also spoke about his improvement in batting. “I have been feeling good. I was working on my technique and my consistency. All the work I put in with my love and heart is paying off now.”
SRH will now play their last group stage game against Gujarat Lions (GL) on May 13 at Green Park, Kanpur.
