Actor Sushant Singh Rajput has stood in support of MS Dhoni, the former captain of Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) following his struggles in the early stages of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 with the bat. Dhoni has had a forgettable time with the Rising Pune Supergiant even before the start of IPL 10, starting with his removal as the captain of the side after a poor inaugural season for the franchise. Dhoni had to make way for Steven Smith as captain, and when the tournament began, one of the most iconic players of IPL history has had to face criticism from outside as well as within the camp.

After the victory in the first game of the IPL 2017 season, Harsh Goenka, the brother of Sanjeev Goenka who owns the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise, tweeted praise for Smith which in a way undermined Dhoni. The former captain made 12 not out in the game, and followed it up with the scores of 5, 11 and 5. Even in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday night, Dhoni managed 28 his best score in this tournament so far but fell after getting a start. Rajput, who played Dhoni s character in his biopic last year, tweeted support for the wicketkeeper-batsman.

The fact that Dhoni is so harshly scrutinised shows his class &the standard he has set. It s a matter of time &not hope his bat will answer, (sic) Rajput wrote on his Twitter account recently.

Dhoni, however, had a much-better game for RPS against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday night. He scored 28 with 3 boundaries and a six. The only six which came off Dhoni s bat was a humongous one, with the ball going out of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He also completed 24,000 career runs. Dhoni also had something more to smile about, as his lightning-quick work behind the wickets resulted in the dismissal of the dangerous AB de Villiers for a 30-ball 29.
