Shreyas Iyer slammed 96 off just 57 deliveries to help Delhi Daredevils (DD) win by 2 wickets against Gujarat Lions (GL) in match 50 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Put in to bat first, GL riding on a brilliant 92-run stand between Aaron Finch (69) and Dinesh Karthik (40) posted a dominating total of 195 for 5. In their chase, Iyer single-headedly took the game away from the Suresh Raina-led side completing a double over them this season. Zaheer Khan, the captain of DD appreciated his side’s fightback despite being knocked out of the tournament. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Gujarat Lions (GL) vs Delhi Daredevils (DD), IPL 2017, Match 50
“We had so many close games. It feels really good to fall on the right side. It’s understandable, we are out of the tournament and the energy was a bit low. As professionals, we need to move on,” said Zaheer in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“We held the game really well and Shreyas was outstanding. You have to take these things in stride and just keep working harder and keep getting better,” he said.
Despite of no chance of progressing to the IPL 2017 playoffs, Zaheer has emphasised on ensuring they bow out of the tournament with head held high.
“We have two more games. We want to win both the games and finish off on a high. It’s not one thing which kind of doesn’t go well. As a team everything has to come right. IPL is such a hectic tournament. You can’t lose the momentum. If you build it, it will go a long way. Four close games, had it gone our way, things would’ve been different. We have to think hard if not for this season, at least for the next season for sure.”
DD will play their next two remaining games against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) on May 12 followed by their last game against the depleted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Feroz Shah Kotla on May 14.
