The competition to take hold of the Orange Cap for most runs in the 2019 IPL continues to grow. Australia batsman David Warner has been the runaway leader for most runs in IPL 2019 so far, having made a strong start to the tournament for Sunrisers Hyderabad, but Kings XI Punjab opener KL Rahul is catching up.

Warner has 400 runs to own the Orange Cap, with Rahul just 13 runs behind with 287.

Rahul’s 52 for KXIP in their 12-run win over Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday has seen him catch up with Warner, who today plays in SRH’s match versus defending champions and league-leaders Chennai Super Kings in Hyderabad.

Warner, who made his IPL comeback after completing a 12-month ban, began the season for SRH with scores of 85, 69 and 100* to take possession of the Orange Cap. Two poor outings were followed by innings of 70* and 51, even as Sunrisers lost three games in a row.

At third on the Orange Cap table is KXIP opener Chris Gayle with 352 runs from eight innings.
