Sri Lanka played some brilliant cricket in the first ODI, as the batting and bowling departments stuck as a coheasive unit to win them the match. Dasun Shanaka on debut gave a performance that deserved a lot of praise. He took a 5-wicket haul and also played a quick-fire innings of 42 runs off 19 balls batting lower down the order. Dinesh Chandimal struck a century too. He along with Angelo Mathews controlled the middle-order pretty well and took the attack to the opposition. Ireland on the other hand, were just not good enough. William Porterfield did score 73 runs at the top of the order but wickets kept tumbling fro mthe other end. He was helped in the chase by Kevin O’Brien who also played a fine innings. But, the Irish side collapsed like a pack of cards and Sri Lanka has the game in their hands soon. Boyd Rankin was decent with his bowling efforts. Though other bowlers will need to deliver for Ireland if they wish to come back into the series.
