She became a nation darling as Preeti Sabarwal, the Chandigarh hockey captain and India forward, in the super hit 2007 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chak De! India. Sagarika Ghatge romanced cricketer Abhimanyu Singh (played by Vivek Bhatana) and eventually dumped him for not respecting his sport. From reel to real, 10 years on, she is back in the news for her alleged relationship with former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan.
The couple have been framed together in many photographs and made an appearance together at Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech’s wedding bash last December. In an interview with mid-day, Sagarika opened up but denied to speak on her personal life. “Let’s just say I am in a very happy space right now. I have never spoken about my personal relationships. In fact, I have never spoken about anything to the press. Personal space is not for discussion.”

Zaheer has retired from international cricket but continues to lead the Delhi Daredevils side in the IPL. When Sagarika was asked about the pressures of dating a cricketer, she added, “I will remain just the way I am: low profile as ever. Why should I be any different just because I am linked to someone? I am not the kind who can put up a farce. I have no shame in admitting that I draw into my shell easily and come out only when I have to speak. I have big respect for Zaheer’s game and before you ask, yes he will watch my film (Irada) when it releases.”
