Islamabad will head into the Pakistan Cup 2016 with their captain Misbah-ul-Haq. They will play their first match of the tournament against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The match will be played on 20th April at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalbad. The team has a quite experienced captain in Misbah-Ul-Haq and will be looking to win the tournament under his captaincy. Misbah had said a few days ago that he was keen to take part in Pakistan’s tour of Australia towards the end of 2016. The right-handed batsman was last seen in action during the three-match Test series in UAE against England, and has just recovered from a calf strain. The Islamabad squad consists of players like Kamran Akmal – the wicket-keeper batsman alongside pacers Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Irfan who were also part of the Pakistan team that played in the T20 World Cup 2016. Other players include likes of Nasir Jamshed, Zafar Gohar and Sharjeel Khan.
Arshal Sheikh will represent Islamabad in the tournament as the Under-19 player in the squad. The other teams which might pose a threat to Islamabad’s hopes of winning the tournament include – Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab. The tournament will begin on 19th April when Balochistan face Punjab in the first match. The 50-over tournament will see 75 top players representing four provinces and Islamabad. All teams will play one match against each other before the top 2 two teams on the points table head into the finals.
