Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag called Ishan Kishan’s decision to walk off before the umpire declared him out a ‘brain fade’ moment. He said Kishan should have waited for the umpire’s decision.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently in ninth position on the points table, having lost six out of eight matches in the ongoing IPL. They suffered their second consecutive defeat against the Mumbai Indians.
During the third over of the SRH innings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Ishan Kishan attempted to play a leg-side delivery but failed to make proper contact with the bat. Meanwhile, Ryan Rickelton caught the ball behind the stumps, and Kishan started walking off the field despite no appeal from the MI players.
Later, the replay showed that there was no edge and Kishan took a wrong decision to walk away.
“Many times, the mind fails to work at that moment. It was brain fade. Ruk toh jaa. Umpire bhi paise le rahe hai (Stop at least and wait for the umpire to make his decision. He is also charging some amount of money for his job),” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
“Let him do his work. I could not understand this honesty. Had it been an edge, it would have been understandable because that would be in the spirit of the game. But it was neither out; the umpire was unsure and you started walking off all of a sudden,” Sehwag added.
Mumbai Indians secured their fouth consecutive win in IPL 2025, after 7-wickets victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Former MI captain Rohit Sharma scored his second successive half century and also shared a 53-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav, which helped MI chase down the total with ease.
Earlier, fast bowlers Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult delivered a remarkable performance, helping Mumbai Indians put the brakes on Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Chahar (2/12) and Boult (4/26) tore through SRH’s top order early, leaving Pat Cummins’ team reeling at 13 for 4 by the fifth over. Heinrich Klaasen later pulled recovery with a composed half-century.
